Mobihealth International and NPUK: A Purposeful Partnership

There are partnerships of convenience, and there are partnerships of conviction. Ours with Mobihealth International belongs firmly in the latter.

Mobihealth was founded in 2017 by Dr Funmi Adewara, a Nigerian-British physician and Cambridge-trained bioscience entrepreneur. Her career has been shaped by a question that returns again and again in the lives of clinicians from the diaspora: how does quality healthcare reach the people who need it most, in the places it has historically failed to arrive?

Under her leadership, Mobihealth has grown into one of Africa's leading telemedicine platforms. Its integrated clinics, many of them solar-powered and satellite-enabled, deliver virtual consultations, specialist referrals, and remote diagnostics into rural and hard-to-reach communities. Women, children, the elderly, and underserved populations receive care that would otherwise arrive late, or not at all. The figures are striking. Half a million lives reached, with a vision of one million annually over the next decade. Time to diagnosis and treatment reduced by up to seventy percent.

Yet the numbers, while important, are not the centre of the story. What makes Mobihealth's work resonate with NPUK is its philosophy. Mobihhealth's vision treats diaspora expertise not as ornament but as instrument. Nigerian-heritage clinicians working across the world are part of the answer to questions back home, not a footnote to them.

That principle sits very close to NPUK's own. A network of psychiatrists of Nigerian heritage in the UK is, in the end, only as meaningful as the work it enables: the patients it reaches, the systems it strengthens, the colleagues it lifts.
