When diaspora professionals come together with purpose, distance stops being a barrier.
Dr Raphael Ogbolu, a member of Nigerian Psychiatrists in the UK (NPUK), is helping to reshape the conversation on mental health and suicide prevention in Nigeria.
As Founder and CEO of Suicide Research and Prevention Initiative (SURPIN), he has built a central national body across all states and with multiple professionals to coordinate global best practices tailored to Nigeria. The goal is simple and urgent: reduce suicide through evidence-based, culturally relevant action.
Raphael’s journey is a reminder that impact does not require relocation. It requires connection. His work is not loud, but in the spaces it reaches, lives are held, restored, and quietly saved.

NPUK connects professionals, amplifies their work, and supports opportunities to contribute to positive change back in Nigeria. Through SURPIN, Raphael is planting hope where silence once allowed despair to grow.
