Bringing Hope Home: Dr Mosun Fapohunda at Aro, Easter 2026

NPUK member Dr Mosun Fapohunda did something quietly extraordinary this Easter.

A pioneer of RESPITE: Mental Well-Being, Education and Support Initiative, a Nigerian NGO founded in 2022 to support individuals living with mental illness and long-term health conditions, Mosun led a visit to inpatients at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital Aro in Abeokuta, Nigeria.

In a country where majority of people living with mental illness struggle to access care, and where stigma so often compounds suffering, showing up for inpatients at Easter is not a small act. She arrived with gifts, warmth, and the simple but powerful message that these lives are seen and valued.

It is a declaration that these lives matter, that recovery is possible, and that the Nigerian diaspora has not forgotten home.

Mosun's work through RESPITE is a beautiful reflection of what NPUK stands for: Nigerian psychiatrists in the UK carrying their skills, their compassion, and their roots back to the communities that shaped them.
